This article briefly overviews the 2018 New Jersey Paid Sick Leave Act (Act), which requires nearly all New Jersey employers, regardless of size, to provide up to 40 hours of paid sick leave to employees during an employer-established “benefit year.”

As of the effective date of the Act (October 29, 2018), all thirteen of the New Jersey municipal paid sick leave ordinances are preempted prospectively.
