This CLE offers 1.5 Ethics/Professionalism credits and addresses ethical issues attorneys may face when representing a nonprofit organization on a pro bono basis or when serving on a nonprofit board.
Topics will include
- The ethical duty of attorneys to offer pro bono services, and the ability of attorneys to obtain New York CLE credit for pro bono work
- The structure of a nonprofit organization and advising the nonprofit client
- The ethical rules regarding limited scope pro bono representation and permissive and mandatory withdrawal
- Ethical issues that may emerge when serving a dual role as a board member and attorney for a nonprofit, including conflicts of interest, maintenance of the attorney-client privilege, and professional judgment concerns
This course is appropriate for both newly admitted and experienced attorneys.
