Congratulations Sanofi U.S., New Jersey Law Journal’s Law Department of the Year for Pro Bono!
The Legal Department of Sanofi U.S. has been an invaluable asset to Pro Bono Partnership for many years, and we’re thrilled that the Law Journal has recognized their work. In collaboration with Pro Bono Partnership, the Sanofi legal team has assisted 30 nonprofit organizations with more than 75 matters! Among the dedicated legal team at Sanofi, we would like to take this opportunity to highlight the work of one Sanofi volunteer by way of example. Stephen Smith, Assistant General Counsel, has been a dedicated volunteer with Pro Bono Partnership since 2013. During that time, Steve has handled 14 matters for five different clients lending expertise on a variety of contracts-related projects including: drafting and reviewing agreements, waiver and release forms, consulting contracts, and nondisclosure agreements.
In particular, Steve has assisted the New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome and Associated Disorders, Inc. (NJCTS) on several occasions. While resolving nine matters for NJCTS, Steve has developed a wonderful relationship with the organization and with Executive Director, Faith Rice and Finance & Human Resource Director, Santina Reichenbach. Steve’s volunteer work with NJCTS has allowed the organization to devote more of its resources and time to providing support and advocacy for children with Tourette Syndrome and their families.
Steve has helped extensively with legal issues for one of NJCTS’s marquee programs, the Tim Howard NJCTS Leadership Academy at Rutgers University. NJCTS had an array of contracting issues that needed to be addressed with respect to the Academy, including one at the 12th hour. Steve volunteered to help NJCTS, initially with the first contract matter and then with several others that followed. He was a steady hand and key resource for Faith and Santina, who were navigating taking the nonprofit to the next level in terms of helping individuals with Tourette Syndrome and public visibility.
The commitment of Steve and the Sanofi legal department to pro bono and Pro Bono Partnership clients has had a direct impact on several New Jersey communities, strengthening many nonprofit organizations, and making those neighborhoods better places to live.
