As of September 19, 2022, all annual filings with the New York State Attorney General’s Charities Bureau must be submitted online. As explained by the Attorney General’s office, online filings will benefit nonprofits in a number of ways including online payment and signature capabilities, faster review by the Attorney General’s office and quicker posting of filings on the Attorney General’s website.

Nonprofits that are unsure of the process may access the Charities’ Bureau’s online tour of the process here. For those that prefer a written guide, please consult the Attorney General’s publication Online Charities Registration User Guide.  Additionally, the Charities Bureau has published an online, inter-active checklist that may be accessed here. Other helpful information can be found here.

What Should Nonprofits Do Now?

Nonprofits should review the above-referenced resources to make sure that they understand the online registration process and are prepared to move forward electronically.
